We were interested to see further research, this time by employers, confirming the value on ‘soft skills’ in today’s workplace.  Soft skills are those such as teamworking and communication.   The research suggests that these skills are worth a staggering £88bn to the UK economy.  It also suggests that if they are not improved, over half a million UK workers will be ‘significan’tly held back’ in their job opportunities.

The ethos of all UTCs is to ensure their young people are ‘work-ready’ and a huge emphasis is placed on these skills.  A recent UTC study confirmed that 88% of UTC students felt confident in entering the world of work, compared to just 67% of students at mainstream schools.

Alongside learning these soft skills, our students also undertake a variety of meaningful work placements.  So, they’re already used to the working environment and how to conduct themselves, long before they finish their education.
