Our Biggest Ever Open Event!
On Saturday 15th October, we opened our doors to nearly 200 people in what has been the biggest Open Event we’ve ever held – a truly wonderful start to the Academic Year.
We were delighted to have so many people in to have a good look around our facilities and to hear from our staff and students. Of our near 200 guests, there were 88 prospective students, and we were amazed to see how engaged they were with the talks and activities we had running throughout the building.
A huge thank you must go out to our seven voluntary students for the way they conducted themselves when giving tours to our visitors. Every open event we hold, our students are more than happy to give up their personal time to help ensure the event is a success. They showed true initiative, and did an incredible job guiding such a large number of visitors.
The Open Morning
The Open Morning began with a presentation from our Executive Principal Tony Withell, and Head of Bucks UTC, Sarah Newall, about the UTC model and curriculum. Following this, visitors were given student-led tours of our state-of-the-art facilities and were able to speak with many students and members of teaching staff about the UTC experience.
In addition, we had fun-filled interactive pieces on display, including a talk with material and gear examples in Construction, and computer-game design demonstrations in the Computing labs.
The Open Morning wrapped up around 12 noon, with many attendees engaging in enthusiastic conversations with members of staff before leaving.
“The College takes great heart from the marvellous attendance at both of our recent ‘Open Events’ – to have such numbers of parents and students to be interested in our offer at Key Stage 4 and the Sixth Form, is so positive. The College is also indebted to the exemplary students who toured visitors around the Colllege – they are a credit to the UTC!” – Tony Withell, Executive Principal.
