COLLEGE TAKES PART IN BIKE RIDE TO RAISE MONEY FOR LOCAL CHARITY

Students, staff and employer partners at Buckinghamshire University Technical College (UTC) have taken part in a cycle ride to raise money for the Buckinghamshire Disability Service (BuDS).  Five groups of cyclists, four in the UTC building on gym cycles and one off-site on real bikes, organised a relay race to cover the equivalent of the 54 mile distance of the London to Brighton bike ride.

The UTC’s Year 12 and 13 students, staff and employees from Intel Security (McAfee) took part in the event which lasted two hours.  Each rider had to attempt to cycle for nine miles to cover their share of the route, completing a minimum of one mile each.  The student team completed the race in the fastest time.

Nathan Baker, Bucks UTC’s Sports Coach, said:  “We continually promote health and fitness at Bucks UTC and it’s really rewarding when you can take part in such a fun event, whilst raising money for a good cause like BuDS.”

Buckinghamshire Disability Services (BuDS) is an independent charity which speaks up for the interests of disabled people in Buckinghamshire.  The UTC has been working on several projects with BuDS this year including designing and building disability access equipment and a website project with Intel Security (McAfee), to provide open, clear and accessible websites to help disabled people.

Bucks UTC is holding regular open events to inform people about its education offer and specialisms in Construction and IT.  Visit www.buckinghamshireutc.co.uk for more information.
