Our biggest Open Evening yet!

On the 12th May, we opened our doors to well over 100 people in what has been our busiest Open Evening to date.

We were delighted to have so many people in to have a good look around our campus and to hear from two of our employer sponsors, Intel and Taylor Wimpey.

Firstly, a big congratulations must go to our students for the way they conducted themselves when giving tours to our visitors. Every open event we hold, our students are more than happy to give up their own time to help ensure the event is a success. Our students speak with such confidence and maturity and we are delighted with the feedback we get from parents who have been to look around the college. Self-confidence and professionalism are vital life skills and events like this are so valuable in helping our students to develop them.

After a brief introduction from Tony, our Principal, and Sarah, our Vice-Principal, guests were given an introduction to our relationship with employer sponsors Taylor Wimpey and Intel.

Intel and Taylor Wimpey

Dave Oxley of Intel was first up, giving an overview of the different projects that Intel have run with our students. He then went on to talk about career opportunities within Intel and how coming to Bucks UTC can give you a great head start if you’re interested in a career in Computing.

Next up we had Beth Kilato, HR Adviser at Taylor Wimpey. As one of the largest house-building companies in the UK, Taylor Wimpey needs a constant flow of young talent into the Construction industry. At Bucks UTC, we aim to develop this talent in our students. Beth went on to discuss the many different job roles available at Taylor Wimpey, from working on-site as a site manager to office-based roles such as a sales and marketing. We hope to have opened the eyes of the audience, allowing them to realise that a career in Construction is not just about bricklaying!

Finally some of our students took to the stage to give an overview of two upcoming events here at Bucks UTC. Firstly, the BAD Challenge, where our students will attempt to build a fully-functional bungalow in just 48 hours, and secondly the 3 Peaks Challenge being undertaken by some of our Construction students. See our blog for more info on both of these.

To finish off the evening, our students gave guided tours of our campus, showing off our great Computing and Construction facilities and allowing our guests to see some of the work that our students do on a daily basis.

Thanks to all

Thanks once again goes to our students for representing Bucks UTC in such a professional manner. Also, we must thank our great teaching team for giving up their evenings to make sure the event was a success. Keep an eye out on our website and social media pages for our next events and, if you haven’t already, come and see Bucks UTC for yourself.
