Lord Baker Pays a Visit to Bucks UTC

This week we welcomed Lord Baker, who came in to meet our students and see our state of the art facilities. Lord Baker, former Education Secretary, is the Chairman of the Baker Dearing Educational Trust, which pioneers the development of UTCs across the country.

Lord Baker said: “It’s almost a year to the day that I came to meet Bev Flanagan who had just started as Principal of Bucks UTC. At that time, there were no students; there wasn’t even a building, and certainly none of the superb learning facilities that I’ve now seen. What a difference a year makes! I was delighted to see the students embracing their academic and vocational training in IT and Construction. We are desperately short of skilled technicians in these areas in the UK and it’s great to meet the next generation”.

Bev Flanagan, Principal of Bucks UTC added: “As we approach our first half term it’s amazing to see what our young people have already achieved. We’ve run some great projects with our employer partners, and the visit from Lord Baker has been an added thrill for them all.”
