Think UTC – Open day, celebration and community event
This Friday we will be opening our doors to the community to let everyone see what we do and showcase our work. It’s a celebration of the UTC and chance for everyone to see what we are about. We have a few updates on what exactly will be happening on the day, so see below for the full details!
Everone’s welcome, – students of all ages, parents interested in educational options for their children and businesses looking to get involved in the community – Come along and join in the fun.
All Day – Curriculum Information
We’ll have a dedicated area near the entrance of our site to provide you with information about the specialist courses we offer and how things are done differently through STEM education. There’ll also be testimonials from past and present students, along with case studies of some of the brilliant work and university placements our students have and will be going on to do.
Build a Computer Relay Challenge
Students and guests will take turns following instructions in a race against time to build a working computer. This challenge incorporates elements of IT, construction, science and English. Plus there are prizes to be won!
Challenge us – IT Support Helpdesk
Our computing students will be running an IT support helpdesk to help anyone who needs help with using their tech. Not sure how to use a feature on your phone? Having an issue with software on your laptop? No problem, our tech-savvy students will offer their expertise advice!
Lectures from our employer sponsors
- Intel and cyber security.
- Cisco and networking for the future.
- ESRI and the use of GIS across all industries.
- Taylor Wimpey and sustainable construction in the 21st century.
These lectures will be running both morning and afternoon
14:00 – 17:00 – Student Showcase
Guests will be able to see the best of our student’s work from all departments including English, Mathematics, Science, History and Business Studies. Here’s an idea of what’s on offer from our specialist subject areas, Computing and Construction:
Computing: Video game design, animation, website design, 3D modelling, e-Portfolios and a presentation on ‘how to build a computer’.
Construction: A presentation for The BAD (Build a Dwelling) Big Build Challenge; an exciting project that will see our students build a house over a period of just 48 hours in July. You’ll also get to see our student’s past construction works along with their impressive technical drawings.
Meet the Staff and Learning Support Team
During the student showcase, our staff will be around the building. So if you or your child is interested in joining Bucks UTC, then this is a great opportunity to ask them any questions you may have in regard to the curriculum. And our specialist learning support team will be on site if you should have any questions for those who have learning needs.
Bucks UTC Site Tours every 15 minutes
Our friendly students will be offering tours of our state-of-the-art facilities every 15 minutes starting from 14:15. You’ll get to see our impressive construction workshop, inspiring computer studios and the spacious work areas.
BuDs Charity Challenge
We will be running a challenge in support of our charity partner, Buckinghamshire Disabled Service (BuDS) who give a voice for disabled people in Buckinghamshire. To learn more about their cause visit buds.org.uk.
Confidence Building Workshop
Students and guests can take part in a workshop designed to boost self-confidence. This includes sharing personal experiences and taking part in activities specifically aimed at improving self-belief and encouraging the skills that are vital in the workplace.
It certainly set to be an exciting day – so we look forward to seeing you and welcoming you to the UTC.
