Successful Parents’ Evening – ‘How Students Learn’, Wednesday 7th September
Sincere thanks to the many parents (and even some of the students) who joined us at last night’s presentation in the College Learning Centre.
The company we are working with to enhance our students’ learning, Elevate, were inspirational to listen to and I am sure that their reference to the research of Karl Weick and Carol Dweck will have led many of us to google their programmes.
Sarah Newall’s review of the headline examination date (for the Summer of 2018) was very positive and Tony Withell talked passionately of the practices that we as a staff are adopting in 2016/17 to enhance the learning of all our students.
The powerpoint presentations are attached, both for reference and for all parents.
An excellent evening!
Nicholas Han, Head of Construction.
Postscript: Elevate have agreed to support Years 10-12 inclusive of their shared seminars in the coming year – an exciting step forward!
On a further note, Bucks UTC would also like to give thanks to Elevate for also coming in on Thursday 8th October, and giving a workshop to our Years 10-11. Elevate’s study skills workshops and seminars work hard to encourage positive change in behaviours and learning approaches amongst students:
‘It isn’t enough that students simply understand what they need to do in their study: the challenge in any study skills programme is getting students to use and apply the skills they learn. Elevate gets students using the skills from its seminars and workshops by using an integrated process that works’.
