Our Best Open Evening Yet
On Thursday 6th October, we opened our doors to well over 150 people in what has been one of our biggest Open Evenings and a fantastic start to the new academic year.
We were delighted to have so many people in to have a good look around our facilities and to hear from our staff, students and sponsors.
Before we recap the evening, a big thank you must go out to our students for the way they conducted themselves when giving tours to our visitors. Every open event we hold, our students are more than happy to give up their personal time to help ensure the event is a success. Our students spoke with confidence and maturity, and we are delighted with the feedback we received from parents who toured our college. Further thanks go out to our guest speaker Matthew Richards from Cisco, and also to our staff for their optimistic engagement with visitors.
After a brief introduction from Executive Principal Tony Withell, and Head of Bucks UTC, Sarah Newall about our curriculum and the UTC-style of learning, guests were given an introduction to our relationship with employer sponsors and industry opportunities by sponsor and Governor, Matthew Richards of Cisco.
Following the presentation, attendees were given student-led tours of our outstanding facilities. En route, staff greeted tour groups in their respective departments and talked through their subject curriculum and ways of learning. There were also exciting, hands-on activities running in our specialist Computing and Construction departments, with Construction teacher Linda Newman offering a technical drawing class for students (and some of the parents too), plus an exciting sound experiment was set up in the computing lab by one of our IT lecturers, Mark Bilsby.
The evening rounded up around 7pm, with over 150 guests and 69 prospective students leaving in a positive fashion with many further conversations with our Executive Principal, Tony Withell, and Vice Principal, Sarah Newall occurring.
“What a fantastic open evening! I have never seen so many bright and budding young engineers in one room. I am so happy that each and every one of you asked all of your questions and saw how fantastic the Buckinghamshire UTC experience is. I thoroughly enjoyed talking to a number of students and parents, and I look forward to seeing you in September 2017.” – Matthew Richards, Cisco Sponsor and Bucks UTC Governor.
